There's something magical about Savannah, Georgia that captures your heart the moment you arrive. Last Saturday, as Tracey and I rolled our RV into this historic southern gem, I had one destination firmly in mind: Forsyth Park. As a photographer who typically shies away from including people in my shots, I knew I was in for a challenge – but sometimes the best art comes from embracing what we can't control.
The park was alive that day. Children chasing bubbles, couples sharing picnic blankets, artists sketching on benches, and tourists snapping selfies – all under the watchful gaze of those magnificent Spanish moss-draped oaks. The iconic fountain stood proudly at the heart of it all, its waters dancing in the Georgia sunlight.
Usually, I'd wait patiently for crowds to clear before taking a shot. But Savannah had other plans. As we strolled down the tree-lined path, something clicked in my mind. Maybe the true essence of this place wasn't in its empty spaces, but in the way it brings people together, creating a living, breathing tapestry of moments.
Through my infrared lens, the scene transformed. The fountain's classical beauty took on an ethereal quality, while the surrounding greenery glowed with an otherworldly luminescence. The people, rather than detracting from the shot, became part of the park's poetry – their presence adding scale and life to this historic landscape.
Later, when I shared the image with our RV community, someone commented that I'd captured the "Essence of the Fountain" – exactly what they envision when remembering their own Savannah adventures. It was one of those perfect moments where technical artistry met emotional connection, proving that sometimes the best photographs happen when we embrace the unexpected.
