Monumental Shadows in Time
In “Monumental Shadows in Time,” the San Francisco de Asís Catholic Mission Church in Taos, New Mexico rises as a symbol of endurance—an adobe monument shaped by faith, weather, and centuries of light. Photographing this iconic church was a personal thrill for me, especially because one of my favorite photographers, Ansel Adams, also created a timeless image here. That connection made this moment feel less like a stop on a journey and more like a quiet, deeply personal artistic pilgrimage.
In black and white, the church becomes pure form and presence. Its smooth, curving walls are sculpted by bold light and shadow, and every texture in the adobe speaks of resilience—marked by countless suns and moons. The shadows don’t simply fall across the surface; they caress it, revealing strength while honoring every imperfect, weathered detail that makes the structure feel alive.
As the light shifts, the façade transforms into a living canvas, each change unveiling another layer of history. The result is a photograph filled with reverence—an architectural hymn in shadow and tone—inviting reflection on endurance, strength, and the monumental echoes of time. This is more than an image; it’s a bridge between eras, captured in gratitude for a sacred structure that continues to stand.
Printed to museum-quality standards and available in multiple sizes and premium materials (paper, canvas, metal, acrylic, and more depending on availability).
