Photographing Caddo Lake and the wetlands of Louisiana feels like entering a landscape held outside ordinary time. Bald cypress trees rise from dark, mirrored water while Spanish moss drifts from their branches like fragments of memory. In the quiet, reflections blur the boundary between what is solid and what is imagined.
My cypress and wetland photography is shaped by those moments of stillness—when light slips through the trees, the water becomes a second sky, and the familiar world begins to feel mysterious. Through infrared and traditional fine-art landscape photography, I seek to reveal the atmosphere of these ancient places: tranquil, haunting, and quietly alive. On a boat tour of Caddo Lake, our guide turned out to be a photographer himself — he knew exactly where to position us as the light started to change. A line of cypress trees stood dark against still water while the sky went gold and amber above them, clouds catching the last light of the day. A beam broke through, and the lake answered with it, the whole surface turning into a path of reflected light. "Guardians at Dusk" is that moment — a photographer's eye on the water, meeting a photographer's eye behind the camera.

The cypress trunks here have gone pale, almost white, rising out of still water with Spanish moss hanging off them in long, matted veils. Above them, the bare branches twist in every direction — and caught in that tangle, a few clumps of gold foliage still hanging on, like the trees forgot to let go of fall.

What draws me to these wetlands is the feeling that time moves differently here. The water is nearly motionless, yet everything seems alive—the shifting light, the hanging moss, the reflections quietly rearranging the world.
Among the cypress trees, I find the mystery that first led me to photography: the possibility that an ordinary landscape can reveal something unseen.
