Starlit Relic in Desert Silence
Astrophotography isn't something I usually dive into as an infrared landscape photographer. Still, every now and then, the universe presents a moment too extraordinary to pass up. While traveling through the vast desert with my wife Tracey, we found ourselves under one of the clearest night sky photography conditions we'd ever seen. The Milky Way stretched across the heavens in all its glory, and the location we stumbled upon was just begging to be captured.
The Discovery: Desert Astrophotography Magic
In the heart of this desert landscape, where silence seems to reign and time stands still, sat an antique truck—a relic of days long gone. Its rusted frame told stories of another era, of journeys once taken, now frozen in the solitude of weathered sands. Against this quiet tableau, the cosmos above danced with a breathtaking display of vibrant reds, purples, and yellows as the Milky Way photography wove its celestial tapestry.
Full Spectrum Photography Technique
So, I took out my gear and created something a little different this time—a full spectrum image that includes ultraviolet, infrared, and visible light. The choice to capture this scene in full spectrum photography added a layer of depth and intrigue that traditional night photography couldn't achieve. By including ultraviolet and infrared light alongside the visible spectrum, I could highlight subtle details and tones the naked eye can't see.
