Mueller Aspen Series: Nature's Finale
My wife, Cooper, and I spent time exploring Mueller State Park near Divide, Colorado, during the autumn transformation of the aspens. The trip became the beginning of my Mueller Aspen Series—a collection shaped by rolling meadows, forested hillsides, and groves of trees that seemed to hold their own inner light.
In Natures Finale, I return to the feeling that drew me back to Mueller again and again. Aspen leaves shimmered in the mountain air, brightening the hillsides while shifting sunlight moved between the trunks. Around every bend, the forest offered another arrangement of light, shadow, color, and quiet motion.
Cooper brought a sense of discovery to those walks, leading us toward hidden clearings and overlooked corners of the park. His energy became part of the experience, reminding me that photographing a place is not only about the images made there. It is also about the wandering, the pauses, and the unexpected moments that stay with you afterward.
This photograph feels like a closing note for the series—the last warm glow before the season gives way to something quieter. The aspens are still luminous, but there is also a sense of change in the air. Their golden leaves will soon fall, the hillsides will become more open, and this brief moment of color will pass.
The Mueller Aspen Series is a record of that fleeting season: the movement of leaves, the stillness between breezes, and the feeling of being surrounded by a landscape that is both temporary and enduring. Natures Finale is for collectors drawn to Colorado landscapes, autumn aspens, and photographs that hold the beauty of a moment just before it disappears.
Complimentary standard U.S. & Canada shipping is included. Each artwork is made to order and carefully prepared for its journey to you.
Printed to museum-quality standards, Mueller Aspen Series: Nature’s Finale is offered on Fine Art Matte Paper, chosen for its reflection-free surface and nuanced rendering of the layered trunks, delicate foliage, and shifting woodland shadows. It is also available on Brushed Metal, which allows a subtle metallic texture to emerge through the brightest leaves and sunlit bark, giving the aspen grove an elemental shimmer and dimensional presence. Each finish was selected to honor the image as autumn’s closing movement—a fleeting moment when the forest gathers its remaining light before the season turns. If you would like a different size, finish, or framing option, contact Dan.
