Sometimes all it takes is one small detail to make me stop.

This photograph was made during the same walk through Tims Ford State Park in Tennessee that led to Wishing Leaves. As Tracey and I followed the trails, I noticed a single leaf resting on an old railroad-tie step.

Nothing about the scene was dramatic. There was no grand landscape or spectacular sunset—only an ordinary moment most people might have stepped over without noticing.

What drew me in was the contrast between the delicate leaf and the weathered wood beneath it. One suggested a brief season; the other carried the marks of endurance. Together, they formed a quiet composition that seemed to have arranged itself just long enough to be discovered.

Moments like this remind me that nature’s most beautiful gifts are not always found by searching farther. Sometimes they are already waiting at our feet, asking only that we slow down enough to see them.

Complimentary standard U.S. & Canada shipping is included. Each artwork is made to order and carefully prepared for its journey to you.

Available on Fine Art Matte Paper, whose reflection-free surface preserves the pale leaf, weathered wood grain, and deep spaces between the steps with subtle tonal detail. For a more contemporary presence, Smooth White Metal brings crisp definition and dimensional depth to the layered textures while maintaining the quiet restraint of the black-and-white composition. Each presentation honors the beauty of noticing—a small, temporary presence resting for a moment upon something shaped by time.

If you’d like a different size, finish, or framing option, contact Dan, and I’ll help you customize the perfect piece for your space.
