Step Above

Sometimes all it takes is one small detail to make me stop.

This photograph was made during the same walk through Tims Ford State Park in Tennessee that led to Wishing Leaves. As Tracey and I explored the trails, I noticed this single leaf resting on an old railroad tie step.

There was nothing dramatic about the scene. It wasn't a grand landscape or a spectacular sunset. It was simply an ordinary moment that most people would have stepped over without a second thought.

What drew me in was the contrast between the delicate leaf and the weathered wood beneath it. One represented something temporary, the other something that had endured countless seasons. Together they created a quiet composition that seemed to have arranged itself just long enough to be discovered.

Moments like this remind me that some of nature's most beautiful gifts are found not by searching harder, but by slowing down enough to notice what's already there.
